Over 301 exonerations, thousands wrongfully convicted across America. Shows there is a problem with the justice system -- established protocols ignored -- professional misconduct by police / prosecutors / ineffective assistance of counsel / false allegations / mistaken identity / coerced witnesses and on and on.

"Bunch was sentenced to 60 years. In 2006, she filed a petition seeking a new trial. Four years later, the court denied the request, a decision that the Indiana Court of Appeals overturned in March. In August, the state's Supreme Court denied the state's appeal of that decision.

The cause of the Greensburg woman was taken up by a former federal prosecutor in Chicago, Ron Safer, and Northwestern University's Center on Wrongful Convictions. The attorneys helped her win a new trial, which led to her release earlier this year."

Mr. Grado, Great article. There needs to be public dialog on this important ruling that impacts peoples lives in a state hell-bent on the mass incarceration of its own people -- preferably the clueless visitors, newcomers and tourists. Why would prosecutors not support this ruling unless they have politicized the justice system?

missing from previous comment:

Is this a joke? No problems after abuse of power by disgraced, disbarred former Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas and his disbarred chief charging prosecutor, Lisa Aubuchon and internet blogging sanctioned ex-DCA Rachel Alexander and their over 200,000 felony cases in one term in office?

Montgomery is not living in the reality created by his predecessors. He has chosen to slam the lid on these cases.

Retired Judge Donahoe said (after his ordeal of being falsely accused by Thomas / Aubuchon) that he sent many people to prison, now he wonders how many were innocent? If they could use the media for "easy" convictions / guilty by media on judges, lawyers, officials and newspaper executives then one can only imagine what they did to ordinary people in their ongoing media witch-hunts.

County Attorneys / DA's in other states understand their obligation to "right the wrongs". It's time MCAO Montgomery learn from enlightened DA's.

Lake County State’s Attorney Nerheim names members of Case Review Panel
NEWS-SUN STAFF REPORT December 3, 2012 7:32PM

Mike Nerheim
Updated: December 7, 2012 10:22AM

See what other County Attorney's are doing -- "righting the wrongs", restoring fair justice and saving taxpayers millions of $$'s.

"On his first day in office after being sworn in, new Lake County State’s Attorney Mike Nerheim announced the members he is appointing to an independent Case Review Panel in Lake County who will be authorized to review criminal cases where there is a question about the wrongful conviction of the innocent, identify the causes of wrongful convictions, and recommend protocols for investigating and prosecuting criminal cases going forward.

“I have invited a talented group of legal professionals to tackle this important issue who bring a balance of experience including from outside of Lake County and who have been vetted for independence,” Nerheim said Monday. “This voluntary Case Review Panel will provide a fresh, unbiased perspective at no additional cost to taxpayers.”
