A former state senator who resigned in January over a domestic violence incident involving his ex-girlfriend has filed a lawsuit against Phoenix.
Scott Bundgaard alleges that city employees conspired to falsely portray him as an abuser rather than a victim in a February 2011 fight on a north Phoenix freeway.
The Arizona Republic reports that Bundgaard is seeking an unspecified amount in damages.
He filed a $10 million notice of claim against Phoenix police and city officials in June. That’s a precursor to a lawsuit.
The Peoria Republican stepped down before he had to testify to a Senate Ethics Committee that would decide whether he should be disciplined over the incident.
Phoenix spokeswoman Toni Maccarone says the city hasn’t received a copy of Bundgaard’s suit yet and declines comment.
