The most important factor in educational success is parental involvement. Rather than expanding government involvement we should be incentivizing parental involvement. That will not happen by subsidizing a parent's decision to turn their child over to all-day kindergarten. Once all day kindergarten is in place how long will it be before someone begins fighting for all day pre-school provided by the government? It is not the government's job to educate children, it is the parent's. Let parents choose how to educate their kids in a free market. That way we don't have politics deciding whether there should be funding for CTE education but those decisions would be made by supply and demand and competent managers. The government's role should simply be to help ensure that all families can afford the school of their choice. All day kindergarten, CTE and anything else should be decided by parents in a free market, not politicians in a government monopoly.

Sen. Crandall's suggestions are totally on target, totally rational, and totally do-able. I appreciate his recognition that not all families can be supported with once income. Sen. Crandall's suggestions are good for all children and the economy. However, they are totally out of step with the Tea Party faction which has radicalized the Republican Party in pursuit of a blind, ideologically driven agenda that would destroy public education as a path to economic and personal betterment available to ALL children.

The Tea Partiers are resentful and oppose "their" tax money being spent for people they, in their misguided self-righteousness, have declared to be unworthy. They will not be satisfied until they have reduced our country to an oligarch of elitists like 3rd world countries. The irony is that most of the Tea Party voters are just angry, resentful, middle class tools of the actual oligarchs who are financially supporting the Tea Party -- not a grass roots movement but an astro-turf "movement". Never has a group voted so often in defiance of its (and the country's) best interests.

Look for Sen. Crandall to be threatened with being "primaried" by Tea Party radicals. I hope he continues to show admirable courage and good judgment.

The aging population will need a young immigrant workforce to replace itself. The Latino vote is a reality of the politics of the future. Immigration reform is critical to the future economics of this county, future wealth and well being. This includes national security, business innovation and growth and global status. Latinos in this country will be the economic engine that spurs demand for consumer spending and play a critical role in America's economic future.
Latinos will reach 122M by 2050, and outnumber the populations of Japan and Russia. With numbers comes spending. Latinos spend $1.2T by 2015, making it the 11th largest economy in the world. This runs in the face of our need for labor, new product invention and start up businesses. Latinos labor force participation is 67%, the most of any demographic group. Address these issues and you will see America grow!
