Arizona’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose to 8.3 percent in August as the state’s economy added jobs overall even as some sectors recorded losses.

The July seasonally adjusted rate was 8 percent.

Department of Administration economists say the state added 39,800 nonfarm jobs in August. That gain is nearly identical to the 10-year average of 39,900 jobs for August but well below the gains of 55,000 in 2011 and 59,000 in 2012.

Six economic sectors recorded job gains in August while five posted losses.

Sectors with the biggest jobs in August were government, education and health services, and leisure and hospitality.

The biggest losses were recorded in professional and business services, manufacturing and construction.
