A newspaper and a television station are suing Yavapai County officials for release of some records generated by the investigation into the June 30 deaths of 19 firefighters during the Yarnell Hill Fire.
The suit filed Wednesday in Yavapai County Superior Court by the Arizona Republic and KPNX challenges county officials’ refusals to provide certain information sought under public records requests.
Items sought include lists of recovered property, supplemental investigative reports and photos and diagrams of the fire scene. However, the lawsuit says the outlets aren’t demanding release of autopsy photos, photos of human remains and certain personal information about the victims.
County Attorney Sheila Polk last month said items such as fire scene photos were being withheld because of privacy interests of the firefighters’ families.
