Ariz. Dept. of Water Resources has a new director

The Arizona Department of Water Resources now has a new director.

Michael J. Lacey was appointed to the job Tuesday by Gov. Jan Brewer.

His appointment fills the vacancy created by the departure of director Sandra Fabritz-Whitney.

Brewer says Lacey has three decades of experience in water resource management.

Lacey has been the department’s deputy director since 2011, serving as the chief operating officer overseeing the protection and administration of water rights and water supplies.

Before joining the department, Lacey was a business owner and consulting hydrologist for 22 years.

Lacey has a master’s degree in physical geography from Arizona State University.
