Fiscal crisis past, Legislature still to be frugal in 2013

With a fiscal crisis that forced billions of dollars in state government cuts mainly over, the Arizona Legislature enters its 2013 session Monday with a budget surplus but little appetite among majority Republicans to loosen the purse strings. The state has socked away about $450 million in a rainy day fund and has more than $1 billion in total surplus going into the budget year that begins July 1.

State revenues drop slightly in August (access required)

State revenue collections are slightly off in August, the state’s budget analysts reported today. The Joint Legislative Budget Committee said revenues dropped by $3.3 million compared to the same time last year. It’s only the second time since July last year that monthly revenues have declined.

Arizona’s revenues increase (access required)

Arizona received another boost in state revenues in July, budget analysts reported today.

In its monthly report, the Joint Legislative Budget Committee said the state collected $749 million in July, a 6.1 percent growth compared to last year.
