Paul Babeu is dropping out of the race for Arizona’s 4th Congressional District and will instead run for re-election as Pinal County sheriff.

House Speaker Andy Tobin on Monday announced that he will forgo a run for Arizona’s new 4th Congressional District.

Voters in southern Arizona’s 8th Congressional District are heading to the polls to choose who will face former Gabrielle Giffords aide Ron Barber in a special election to replace the wounded ex-congresswoman.

Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu’s congressional campaign saw a marked decrease in fundraising after he faced allegations in mid-February that he threatened an ex-boyfriend with deportation, but he still raised more money during the quarter than his two Republican rivals in the race.

If you can’t beat them, pack up and move to a new district.



That’s the lesson that a handful of legislators are taking with them as they prepare to run in the new districts drawn by the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission.
