Barber faces 1st primary campaign challenge

Ron Barber had no competition last spring in a special primary election to replace his old boss, former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, until her term expired. He then went on to decisively beat a tea party Republican who had nearly unseated Giffords from her southern Arizona district in 2010.

Salmon outspends Adams in CD5 (access required)

Kirk Adams buttressed his campaign contributions with an $88,000 loan to give him the lead in fundraising for this reporting period over Matt Salmon, but the former House Speaker still couldn’t match Salmon’s contributions from individuals and political committees or his own spending.

Quayle out-raises, outspends Schweikert in pre-primary period (access required)

U.S. Rep. Ben Quayle raised more and spent more than fellow incumbent Congressman David Schweikert in the last fundraising period for the 6th Congressional District primary between the two freshman Republicans.

Quayle raised $189,285 compared to just $80,645 for Schweikert in the pre-primary period, which ran from July 1 to Aug. 8. Quayle also outspent his rival, spending $797,766 to Schweikert’s $663,530.
