Crandall holds off Fillmore in East Valley race (access required)

Rep. John Fillmore, an Apache Junction legislator with Tea Party leanings, has conceded defeat in his race against Sen. Rich Crandall, a low-key but influential member of the “mainstream” wing of the GOP caucus.

The tally has yet to be completed, but Fillmore said he doesn’t think he can catch up.

Veteran Yuma lawmaker defeated (access required)

Darin Mitchell, a Litchfield Park political newcomer has unseated Rep. Russ Jones of Yuma in the Aug. 28 Republican House primary election for Legislative District 13. Mitchell teamed with Rep. Steve Montenegro, also of Litchfield Park, in the three-way race.

Conservative icon Pearce loses again by double digits (access required)

Except for his concession speech, it’s all over for Russell Pearce.

Outraised and outspent, the man who helped elevate Arizona onto the national stage in the illegal immigration debate, failed on Tuesday to persuade his party-mates to send him back to the state Legislature.

It was the former Senate president’s second loss since November – when he was ousted from office in a recall election – against an opponent who holds moderate views on immigration enforcement.
