  • Adhere to immigration laws

The federal government, working with the border states, should provide the personnel and resources to secure our borders.

  • ‘Tis the season for Medicare Part D ‘doughnut hole’

For many people in Medicare Part D, late summer is usually the time of year when they fall into the infamous “doughnut hole,” which is the coverage gap that requires enrollees to pay all of their medication costs.

  • Clean Elections is another chance to pick pockets

There is an ad running on National Public Radio that claims Arizona’s Clean Elections “opens the door to citizens to run for political office.” This is pure political propaganda because Clean Elections does not open any doors – that is, all the other requirements for candidates remain the same.

  • McCain took the time to listen, Hayworth didn’t

I would like to relate a story that demonstrates the essential difference between Sen. John McCain and former Congressman J.D. Hayworth. It shows how McCain always helps his constituents and why he should be re-elected.

  • Compromise is needed in Congress

I have been told many times that it takes courage to run for office. Courage is the ability to face difficult issues and never back down. As a business owner I know that there will always be issues and problems to take care of.

  • Is the Arizona Chamber really serious about business?

When I received the Arizona Capitol Times (June 25, 2010) issue I was excited to see the front-page article entitled, “Business groups move to center.” The article starts off noting the commitment by the business community to send a message to our legislators to stop wasting time on “kooky stuff like ‘birther’ bills.”

  • Electronic government records should be free to public

Electronic documents were supposed to be the ultimate answer to government openness. Reams of information could be bundled and sent off en masse with basically no overhead and no dead trees, and it would take a few seconds of clicking on a computer rather than hours at the copy machine.

  • Shameful shades of laws in Arizona

Arizona’s immigration law authorizes police to demand to see “an alien registration document” – a green card, passport or state driver’s license – for anyone police suspect of being in the country illegally.

  • And justice for all – right?

We say it every morning in front of the flag, pledging our allegiance to the United States. We say it and claim we mean it. Everyone was a child once. Everybody, most likely, went to school at a time in their lives. They were all required to recite The Pledge. They all said the line, “and justice for all.”

  • Christians should love all people – regardless of nationality

For 10 years, First Christian Church has helped save migrant lives in the desert by working with Humane Borders, and now we are formally launching new ministries of advocacy and service.
