Pierce’s Victory Fund spends against Fillmore (access required)

A committee whose goal is to return a robust GOP majority to the state Senate has taken sides in a Republican primary, spending money to help Sen. Rich Crandall, R-Mesa, beat Rep. John Fillmore, R-Apache Junction.

The Republican Victory Fund recently sent out a mailer touting Crandall’s record, including his vote to pass SB1070.

As expected, Fillmore is dismayed by the committee’s action.

Tea Party McCarthy-like attacks sidetrack us from important issues

Arizona is a dream for comedians and political writers.

Unfortunately, the Arizona Capitol Times July 23 story “Tea party leader says all Muslims a ‘threat’ to U.S.; seeks recall of McCain” on Tea Party organizer Wes Harris wanting to ban all Muslims from working for the federal government and attempting to recall Sen. John McCain crowds out news on “normal” people (like myself) trying to run for office and offering ideas on how to improve the state.

Politics is not the place for religious evangelism

Our presidential election campaign is picking up steam, and money is being raised as never before, mostly to convince voters that the other party’s guy is a very poor choice to be president. Most voters have already dug in and need little convincing that their views are a kind of political light that must prevail over the opposing darkness. It’s as if we have brought religious sectarianism into our politics as they have been doing in Iraq and now in Egypt.
