Martin campaign off to slow start (access required)

Shortly after Dean Martin entered the race in January, a Rasmussen Reports poll showed him with a slight edge over Gov. Jan Brewer, as did another poll by the same firm in late March. But his lead disappeared in a mid-April Rasmussen poll, which showed him in fourth place behind Brewer, Buz Mills and former Arizona Republican Party Chairman John Munger. And a May 4 Rocky Mountain Poll by the Behavior Research Center put Martin in third place, trailing Brewer by 12 points.

Thomas becomes everyone’s favorite target in AG race (access required)

Shortly after Thomas announced his resignation, the three candidates on the Democratic side issued a joint statement denouncing him, with former state prosecutor Vince Rabago sending out another on his own for good measure. And much of their criticism was echoed on the right, where fellow Republican candidate Tom Horne, the state superintendent of public instruction, savaged Thomas for alleged abuses of power.

Several lining up to run for attorney general

The same day County Attorney Andrew Thomas registered an exploratory committee for the 2010 campaign to become attorney general, House Minority Leader David Lujan sent the media a list of people who are supporting his bid for the office.Lujan, a Democrat from Phoenix, is serving his third term in the Arizona House. He just finished his first legislative session as minority leader.
