Capitol Police chief takes D.C. job

Police Chief Tim Lane's new job is greatly expanding his service area - from the Arizona State Capitol to the entire United States. Lane, who started his new job as a liaison with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in Washington, D.C. at the beginning of this month, will travel around the country educating law enforcement agencies on NHTSA's law enforcement programs.

Capitol Police confiscated 170 weapons this year (access required)

More than 170 weapons were seized by security at Arizona Capitol buildings in 2009, according to the Arizona Capitol Police. The weapons seized include 117 knives, 54 handguns, three box-cutters, one can of Mace, one can of pepper spray, a wrench and an iron bar, said Andrew Staubitz, commander of the Capitol Police.
