Pearce allies OK legislation to pave way for recall reimbursement

Allies of former senator Russell Pearce secured a critical step in pushing for legislation that creates the framework for reimbursing officials who face recall elections.

The proposal could pave the way for Pearce getting a reimbursement of more than $260,000 — the amount his campaign spent defending him last year, when he was ousted from the senate in a recall election.

Horne denies allegations, fires back at accuser

Attorney General Tom Horne denied allegations that he violated campaign laws in 2010 and accused the prosecutor who made them of filing a complaint because he knew he was about to lose his job.

In an email on Monday evening, Horne spokeswoman Amy Rezzonico said the attorney general did not illegally collaborate with Kathleen Winn, the chairwoman of a pro-Horne independent expenditure that spent more than a half-million dollars on attack ads against his Democratic opponent.
