Huppenthal accepts judge’s ruling of illegal on ethnic studies program (access required)

State schools chief John Huppenthal today accepted an administrative law judge’s findings that Tucson Unified School District’s Mexican American Studies program is illegal. The school district’s governing board will now have to decide whether to come into compliance or lose 10 percent of the district’s state funding, which amounts to about $15 million a year, or appeal Huppenthal’s decision in Maricopa County Superior Court.
