Mental health meetings slated to resume

Which way will the gavel pass?

Gov. Jan Brewer is planning to attend a "Passing of the Gavel" party tomorrow for Chief Justice Ruth McGregor's impending retirement at the end of the month, and sources say the governor might give a short speech. Some at the Legislature have noted that because the governor's challenge will be heard Tuesday, with McGregor still presiding over the court, the event presents the appearance of impropriety.

Phoenix Councilwoman Baier named state land commissioner

Gov. Jan Brewer named Phoenix City Councilwoman Maria Baier as the new state land commissioner. "(Baier) brings numerous years of outstanding experience in the public and private sectors, with expertise in the areas of land use, natural resource management, growth and development and environmental quality," Brewer stated in a press release June 16.
