Ballot harvest: Video sparks new debate over banning bulk voting technique <span class="dmcss_key_icon"><img alt="(access required)" src="/files/2013/12/lock1.png" border=0/></span>

A video which shows a Citizens for a Better Arizona canvasser dropping hundreds of ballots into a box at the Maricopa County Elections Department has re-ignited the debate over “ballot harvesting” by voter outreach groups. The practice is perfectly legal. But that hasn’t stopped critics from claiming voter fraud and even posting death threats against the canvasser in the comments section of the video on YouTube.

Her position has evolved… since Sunday

Reagan appears to have done an about-face on her opposition to political organizations “harvesting ballots.” Reagan, who sponsored S1003 (early ballot voting; revisions) in 2013, which would have banned political groups from picking up ballots from voters and delivering them to elections officials and which was later incorporated in H2305 (election revisions; violations), said that she is willing to compromise with groups that use the technique and allow them to continue collecting ballots – with some additional oversight.

Reagan yesterday suggested that, instead of forcing dark money entities to disclose their contributors, the latter should instead be required to report their contributions to the secretary of state.
