Phoenix offers $1M above appraisal for land

Phoenix airport officials are offering $1 million more than the appraised value for a piece of contaminated land south of Sky Harbor International Airport where they want to build a parking lot. But some members of the City Council are balking at the deal, saying they can't understand why the Aviation Department is offering more than the land is worth.

Phoenix looking at a budget surplus

Phoenix may be sitting on a pile of money when the new budget year begins in July. It's the first time in years the city may have a surplus of cash that city officials are projecting could be from $10 million to $15 million in the general-fund budget for the 2012-2013 fiscal year.

When buses stop, the Valley’s commerce feels the impact

As you surely know by now, bus drivers for the cities of Phoenix and Tempe went on strike March 10. The private sector contractor, Veolia Transportation, and the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 1433, met 45 times over 22 months on the Phoenix contract alone before the walkout. Veolia operates transit systems throughout the U.S., has operated bus service in the Valley for the past 35 years and knows our community well.
