Pearce ducks responsibility for racist email blasts

In response to a Southern Poverty Law Center article this week that some of his legislative emails contained evidence of “deep-seated bigotry,” former Senate President Russell Pearce yesterday denied ever writing anything racist or bigoted and said that he wouldn’t knowingly send out bigoted writing from another author.

Arizona Legislative campaign finance round-up (access required)

Mesa businessman Bob Worsley has far outraised his primary opponent, former Senate President Russell Pearce, taking in about $67,000 in contributions during the first five months of the year. Pearce, meanwhile, collected a mere $2,800 during the same period, according to the latest campaign finance reports. The deadline to file the reports was July 2, and they reflect campaign finances through May 31.

Pearce’s gypsy fundraiser

Two different Mexican restaurants told Pearce to scram after an anti-Pearce group organized a protest and threatened boycotts over a fundraiser scheduled for this afternoon. The event, the location of which was not initially disclosed, was initially booked at the Macayo’s on Central Avenue.
