Lawmakers hope Arizona can cash in on California Internet tax (access required)

California’s loss could be Arizona’s gain, if some legislators have any say about it.

With the outcry from some businesses about the Golden State’s newly-passed “nexus tax” on some online retailers, Rep. Tom Forese, R-Gilbert, has proposed that Arizona take advantage of the discontent and try to recruit the angry businesses to Arizona, which has no such tax.

With a mere third of the House of Representatives being Democrats, Minority Leader Chad Campbell knew it was going to be an uphill battle trying to put a dent in the Republicans’ agenda this past session.

Brewer backing away from special session talk (access required)

Lawmakers may not have to return to the Capitol this year after all.

Gov. Jan Brewer told the Arizona Capitol Times that she had no specific plans for special session and played down the possibility of calling legislators back, just weeks after she first said she was considering the idea for her state employee personnel reform plan.
