U.S. House can’t muster votes to pass Franks bill limiting abortions in Washington

A bill by Rep. Trent Franks, R-Glendale, to ban abortions in the District of Columbia after 20 weeks of pregnancy failed to get the two-thirds majority needed to pass the House Tuesday.

The House voted 220-154 for the District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, shy of the 250 votes needed to make up the two-thirds of those present.

Tea Party McCarthy-like attacks sidetrack us from important issues

Arizona is a dream for comedians and political writers.

Unfortunately, the Arizona Capitol Times July 23 story “Tea party leader says all Muslims a ‘threat’ to U.S.; seeks recall of McCain” on Tea Party organizer Wes Harris wanting to ban all Muslims from working for the federal government and attempting to recall Sen. John McCain crowds out news on “normal” people (like myself) trying to run for office and offering ideas on how to improve the state.

Club For Growth takes shot at Franks (access required)

The Club for Growth had a short but strong rebuke for Franks today after he appeared in an ad for Cardon in which he “sets the record straight” on the “absolutely false” attack ads paid for by the Club. In the 30-second ad posted today on YouTube by Cardon’s campaign, Franks, who endorsed Cardon earlier this month, says he can personally vouch for Cardon as a “job creator,” “conservative Reagan Republican” and someone with the “business skills we need in the Senate to fix this economy.”
