Huppenthal accepts judge’s ruling of illegal on ethnic studies program (access required)

State schools chief John Huppenthal today accepted an administrative law judge’s findings that Tucson Unified School District’s Mexican American Studies program is illegal. The school district’s governing board will now have to decide whether to come into compliance or lose 10 percent of the district’s state funding, which amounts to about $15 million a year, or appeal Huppenthal’s decision in Maricopa County Superior Court.

Tucson district reviewing ethnic studies ruling

TUCSON — Tucson Unified School District officials plan to hold a closed-door session Tuesday to discuss an administrative law judge's ruling that district's ethnic studies program violates state law. The district said in a statement Wednesday that it is reviewing the ruling.
