Sinema dominates CD9 fundraising (access required)

Kyrsten Sinema raised an eye-popping $367,000 last quarter, improving substantially on her first-quarter numbers and making the former Democratic senator the top fundraiser on either side of the aisle in the competitive race for Arizona’s 9th Congressional District.

Former Arizona Democratic Party Chairman Andrei Cherny, who dominated CD9 after the first quarter, raised about $302,000. The number puts Cherny in second place for the quarter, but he still leads Sinema in cash on hand, with $469,000 to her $358,000.

Cherny dominates CD9 fundraising (access required)

Former Arizona Democratic Party Chairman Andrei Cherny raised more money than his two opponents combined in the hotly contested Democratic primary for Arizona’s 9th Congressional District. Cherny’s $431,000, which he raised in about seven weeks, dwarfed Sen. David Schapira’s $131,000 and left former Sen. Kyrsten Sinema in a distant second place in the fundraising race with $258,000.

Parker kicks off CD9 campaign

Vernon Parker kicked off his campaign for Arizona’s 9th Congressional District with the aura of a frontrunner. In a race for a competitive but Democratic-leaning district, Parker is the only big name in the GOP primary so far. Heavyweights who were expected to get into the race such as Hugh Hallman, Steve Moak, Gary Pierce and Don Stapley have all opted out.

Stapley announces CD9 run (access required)

After 18 years at the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, Don Stapley is setting his sights on Congress. Stapley said he filed paperwork Tuesday with the Federal Election Commission to run in the 9th Congressional District, which covers parts of Chandler, Mesa, Phoenix and Tempe.
