Kelly’s future uncertain (access required)

Perhaps the biggest Republican victor last night was Martha McSally, considering that Kelly has now lost twice in CD8 and expressed uncertainty last night about whether he will stay on the ballot for the new Dem-leaning CD2. He told supporters last night that “only God knows” what his future holds and that, while he “most likely” will run in the new district, he would take a few days to consider his options.

Three’s a crowd, but what’s four?

If Martin withdraws, he will join the three other people who so far have withdrawn their candidacies after opponents began preparing to challenge their nominating petitions. LD25 House candidate Chris Montijo became the first to withdraw (YS, 6/6), and he has since been followed by Dem US Senate candidate David Ruben and LD24 GOP Senate candidate Scott Fistler.

Republicans cried foul this morning when Public Policy Polling released the results of a poll done over the weekend that shows Barber up by 12 points over Kelly in tomorrow’s special CD8 election. Republican operatives and Kelly supporters were quick to pan the poll’s results because it significantly oversampled Dem voters.

Vote of no confidence on two ballot measures

Multiple sources say that the Arizona Chamber of Commerce’s public policy committee yesterday voted to recommend that the full chamber board oppose both the Open Government and Quality Jobs & Education initiatives when it meets next week to decide what stance to take on the slate of 2012 ballot measures.

Rio Nuevo shakeup fosters conspiracy theories

Word broke Tuesday that Pierce ousted two members of the Rio Nuevo board, including its chairwoman. Letters dated May 31 were sent to Chairwoman Jodi Bain and fellow board member Rick Grinnell. The three-sentence letters merely thank them for their service and say that Pierce intends to appoint new members to the panel, but do not give a reason.

Flipping over the race card

Gallardo yesterday led the Latino charge against the two recent FAIR Trust lawsuits against the IRC’s maps. With an eye directed primarily at the legislative map, he, Lopez and Quezada teamed up with Mary Rose Wilcox and attorney Danny Ortega to denounce the lawsuits as a dishonest and racist Republican attempt to maintain control of the Legislature.
