Brewer will meet Monday with feds on border security

Gov. Jan Brewer is still waiting for the White House to provide some of details on her big border security meeting Monday with federal officials, but said it would include representatives from a handful of federal agencies.

Brewer said she and her staff would meet with about five officials from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice and Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The meeting will begin at 2 p.m.

“I’m hoping that they will come and bring us the solutions that we need to hear from them. It’s most important that we have a good dialgogue and that we get good, solid information. They need to come and tell us that the feds are going to do their jobs. It’s their responsibility,” Brewer said. “I’ve sent a letter, hoping that I would get some details so that we could be prepared ahead of time. There’s a good possibility that maybe we will get some of that information before Monday.”

The meeting is a follow-up to Brewer’s June 3 meeting with President Barack Obama at the White House to discuss border security. Brewer has been outspoken in her criticism of the federal government’s inability to control border crime, while Obama and the Department of Justice have threatened to sue Arizona over a recent law that strengthens police officers’ ability to enforce federal immigration law.
