Issues:

Political influence: Senator Jack C. Jackson, Sr.

Budget recommendations: I believe that we should not be drastically cutting public spending nor should we overburden our citizens with taxes. To ensure that we don’t do either, we need to know what our public spending needs are and where Arizona taxes stand relative to other states. In looking at closing the budget gap, the Legislature must take steps with full and honest awareness of the total and long-term economic impact to the state.

Other concerns: I am committed to bringing equality of opportunity and equality of rights back to my home and to the homes of people like me.

Fiscal philosophy: I support a more progressive tax structure to reduce economic inequality and to provide more services.

Background & experience: My most notable strength as a candidate is my legislative experience in the state and on a national level, as well as my positive reputation in the district. My time in the Legislature brought me a great deal of respect from my constituents as well as people affected by legislation across Arizona. Most of my professional life, I have also advocated on behalf of Indian people in Arizona, before Congress, the White House, and various federal agencies and departments. All of this experience has provided me with certain strengths: the ability to listen, understand and promote the interest of my constituents.

Prop. 100 sales tax: I favor the tax increase to ensure continued funding for primary and secondary education, health and human services and public safety.

Pro-life/pro-choice: I support protecting a woman’s ability to choose a safe and legal abortion. I also believe that all women should have access to birth control, and I support public funding of contraception for poor women.

Campaign Finance: public.
