Memberships have included: Financial officer of the Military Order of the Purple Heart; member, Vietnam Veterans of America; member, Disabled American Veterans Member of the VFW.
Interests: Scuba, politics and veterans organizations.
Issues:
Political influence: Jon Kyl without a doubt.
Budget recommendations: Look at the expenditures on welfare and AHCCCS. With one in four people on welfare or AHCCCS, this is unsustainable. We must research limiting the time on welfare, and charging premiums and co-pay for AHCCCS. Let private companies open up our state parks and pay the state a fee. We need to reduce the educational expenditures on administration; it is totally out of control. I believe that we should reduce or eliminate the business equipment property tax and lower the corporate tax rate. We need to encourage businesses to relocate in Arizona and thereby increase the tax base.
Other concerns: Veterans’ issues, including getting a veterans’ cemetery in Tucson. Increasing the jobs in Arizona by revisiting some of the business regulations and streamlining them.
Fiscal philosophy: I am a fiscal conservative.
Background & experience: I served my country for more than 30 years in the military and then as a federal agent. During my service in the federal government, I spent 7 years as a border patrol agent and immigration inspector, which gives me a unique perspective on the immigration issue which no other legislator has. I am a small business owner and understand the complexities of owning a business and I am a veteran and understand veterans’ issues.
Proposition 100 sales tax: This was already decided by the voters, but I did not agree with it because it did not fix anything. We still have to cut our budget and will have to do so in the future.
Pro-life/pro-choice: I am a pro-life candidate. I do not believe that abortion should be used as a form of birth control.
One last thing: I am a candidate with a great deal of experience, in fact, more than all my opponents combined. I have the experience to deal with the difficult problems that arise in the House and have solutions to these problems.
Campaign Finance: public.
