Political experience: Precinct committeeman; county chairman; state executive committee. AZ Senate since 2009.
Memberships have included: AZ Cattle Growers; AZ GOP; AZ National Livestock Show; Yavapai Republican Committee. Interests: Gardening, fishing, beaching.
Issues:
Political influence: My father, Delbert Pierce; Barry Goldwater; Ronald Reagan; Fife Symington; Carol Springer.
Budget recommendations: All agencies and departments have shrunk in size. Move them back into state buildings and stop paying rent. Cut the number of days in school. Privatize things that can be.
Other concerns: Reform the largest departments of government such as education, AHCCCS and DES. Work with the Feds on immigration problem being solved, not just passing stricter laws. Pay off state debt and cut deficit.
Fiscal philosophy: Conservative, cut the size of government and the spending and pay off debt.
Background & experience: Long hours. I am the first or second in every morning. We should push for a shorter session that has fewer but longer days. I prefer to meet every other year, but that isn’t a popular idea.
Prop. 100 sales tax: I oppose it. There are other things we should have tried first.
Pro-life/pro-choice: I am pro-life. This is not a political issue in my opinion.
One last thing: I can walk both sides of the street and can get along with anyone. All legislators need to come here to do a job, not keep it. Doing what is right for all of Arizona is most important.
Campaign Finance: private.
