Political experience: Precinct committeeman; ran for state Senate, 2000; ran for Congress, 2004, 2006.

Memberships have included: Sierra Club, Audubon Society & Nature Conservancy.

Interests: Horseback riding, hiking and fishing.

Issues:

Political influence: My father, who took time off from his business to run for city council in Phoenix when he felt the city was not acting in a responsible manner.

Budget recommendations: Close existing tax loopholes for special interests, collect royalties from the extractive industry in Arizona, and collect sales taxes on internet sales into Arizona.

Other concerns: Securing our border with Mexico to provide safety for our cities and towns while allowing commerce between us and our largest trading partner to flourish. Ending the urban sprawl that is devouring our watersheds, our forests and our natural wildlife habitats.

Fiscal philosophy: I am a fiscal conservative who believes in paying as you go and not in burdening future generations for today’s excess spending.

Background & experience: Building and operating two substantial businesses in Arizona has given me the discipline of meeting my daily obligations while not losing sight of long range goals. The Legislature seems content with sacrificing one for the other.

Prop. 100 sales tax: I oppose the tax increase because it will dampen consumer spending at a time when that is our best hope for an economic recovery. Ending tax loopholes offers a better way to raise needed revenue.

Pro-life/pro-choice: I oppose abortion except when necessary to protect the life of the mother.

One last thing: U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

Campaign Finance: public.
