Geographic Description of Legislative District 7

This north Valley district comprises an approximately six-mile wide column of northeast Phoenix and extends north all the way to the Yavapai County line. The southwest corner of the district lies at the intersection of Sweetwater Ave. and Cave Creek Rd. The district line goes north along an alignment with 20th St. to Greenway Pkwy. and then jogs west one-half mile to 16th St. where it goes north a little over two miles to Beardsley Rd. It then goes one mile east to Cave Creek Rd. and follows it north to a point just north of Dynamite Rd. At that point the district boundary goes north along an alignment with 40th St. to the Carefree Highway where the line jogs west and then north to include the town of Cave Creek and then north again to the Yavapai County line. It follows the county line east for about seven miles to a point north of Seven Springs where it goes south, skirting Quien Sabe Peak to the west and then south again to include the town of Carefree. The line continues south, crossing into Scottsdale, following Pima Rd. and intersecting the Loop 101 just north of Bell Rd. The district boundary follows the Loop 101 west two miles to Scottsdale Rd. and then heads south again to Cactus Rd. It then zig-zags northwest one mile to Thunderbird, which it follows three miles to 40th St. From there it goes one-half mile south to Sweetwater Ave. which it follows west to Cave Creek Rd. To the west of this district is District 6, to the east is District 8, to the north is District 4, and to the south District 11. An area of former state trust land known as Desert Ridge lies in this district. This has been the site of extensive commercial and residential development during the past seven years.
