Geographic Description of Legislative District 11

The district straddles State Route 51 (Piestewa Parkway) generally between Thunderbird Rd. on the north and Indian School Rd. on the south. It includes all of Paradise Valley and parts of Phoenix in what may be termed the near north side. To the east of this district is Scottsdale and District 8. To the south and west is District 15, and to the north is District 7. The district’s northwest corner is at the intersection of 18th St. and Sweetwater Ave. From there the district line follows Sweetwater east across the Piestewa Parkway to 40th St., where it jogs north one-half mile to Thunderbird, which it follows east three miles to 64th St. The line then goes south to Cactus Rd. and follows the boundary between Phoenix and Scottsdale. At Mountain View Rd. and the border with Paradise Valley, the line goes east one mile to Scottsdale Rd. and then south along the boundary to include all of Paradise Valley. South of Paradise Valley, the district line again follows the boundary between Phoenix and Scottsdale and farther south the boundary between Phoenix and Tempe as far south as Oak St. where it zig-zags northwest to 32nd St., roughly one-quarter mile north of Indian School. The line follows that general alignment west two miles to the Piestewa Parkway, then north to Camelback before heading west again to 15th Ave. It then zig-zags northwest through residential neighborhoods to 19th Ave., which it follows about three-and-one-half miles north to Dunlap. The line then goes east along Dunlap to Seventh St. where it jogs south one-half mile to Butler Dr., which it follows to the intersection with the Piestewa Parkway. The district line then goes north roughly to the starting point at 18th St. and Sweetwater. The major retail center in the district is Phoenix Christown Spectrum Mall. Much of the Phoenix Mountain Preserve including Piestewa Peak and Mummy Mountain lie within the district.
