Geographic Description of Legislative District 14

This L-shaped district is almost entirely within Phoenix, encompassing the city’s near west side with one Glendale precinct thrown in. The bottom of the L is basically a one-mile strip extending from 19th Ave. to 48th St. To the south lies District 16, to the east is District 15, and to the west is District 13. The northwest corner of the district is at the intersection of 43rd Ave. and Orangewood (the half-miler between Northern and Glendale avenues). From there the line goes east one mile to 31st Ave. and then south two miles to Missouri Ave., where it takes a quarter-mile jog to the east to 29th Ave. and then goes south one-half mile to Camelback Rd. The line follows Camelback east to 19th Ave. From there, with the exception of a one precinct cutout (West High) that it cedes to District 15, it goes straight south to Roosevelt. The line follows Roosevelt east to Central Ave., where it jogs north one-half mile to McDowell Rd. and then east along McDowell to 48th St. The line then goes south one mile to Van Buren St., which it then follows west all the way to 51st Ave. and then north almost to Thomas Rd. It takes an irregular course northeast to the intersection of Thomas and 43rd Ave. From there, the line goes north to Bethany Home Rd, jogging west to encompass one Glendale precinct (West Plaza, which is roughly a half-mile slice of the city between Glendale and Bethany Home roads) before continuing north along 43rd Ave. to the starting point.
