Geographic Description of Legislative District 18

This district encompasses most of west Mesa. The northeast corner of the district lies where Price Rd. enters the Salt River channel. The line follows the Salt River channel (which is the northern boundary of Mesa) northeast to McDowell Rd. and then east to Gilbert Rd. It goes south to Broadway Rd., where it jogs two miles east to Val Vista Dr. before continuing south to the border of Gilbert at Baseline Rd. The district line then goes west along Baseline to Center St., goes north one mile to Southern Ave. before continuing west to Westwood (one-quarter mile east of Alma School). From there the line zig-zags northwest through residential neighborhoods to the intersection of Eighth Ave. with Longmore and then west along Eighth Ave. to the Tempe Canal and the border of Tempe. It follows the border of Tempe north to the starting point. The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community Reservation lies across the Salt River to the north. District 19 lies to the east, districts 21 and 22 to the south, and District 17 to the west. Downtown Mesa and the Mesa (Mormon) Temple lie within the district. The major retail center is Fiesta Mall.
