Geographic Description of Legislative District 21

This is an L-shaped district in the southeast Valley, encompassing the town of Queen Creek, parts of south Gilbert, southwest Mesa and the portions of Chandler not included in District 20. District 21 is cradled by District 23 on its southwest, south and southeast sides. It borders districts 17 and 20 to the east and District 18 to the north. The northeast corner of the district lies at the border of Tempe, where the Tempe Canal intersects Eighth Ave. From there the district line zig-zags southwest through residential neighborhoods to Southern Ave. and Westwood, which is one-quarter mile west of Alma School Rd. From there the line goes west along Southern to Center St. and then south to Baseline Rd. The line backtracks west one-half mile to County Club Rd. and then south to the Western Canal, where the borders of Chandler, Mesa and Gilbert converge. From there, the line follows the border between Chandler and Gilbert (including the former, excluding the latter), stair-stepping southeast to the intersection of Lindsay and Queen Creek roads. The line continues east along Queen Creek to Higley Rd., where it dips south one mile to Ocotillo Rd. before heading east to the border of the town of Queen Creek at Power Rd. The line goes north along Power to Rittenhouse Rd. then follows Rittenhouse southeast to Germann Rd. and then west to the border of Queen Creek at Meridian Rd. The line extends south to Hunt Hwy./Empire Rd., so as to include all of Queen Creek. It follows Hunt Hwy. west 18 miles to Price Rd. and then north five miles to Germann. The district line then makes a cut-out to exclude the part of Chandler that lies in District 20: first west on Germann for 1ΒΌ miles then zig-zagging northeast to Alma School and thence north to Ray Rd. where it cuts back one mile to Dobson Rd. before heading north again to the Western Canal and the border between Chandler and Tempe. The district line follows the canal west one mile to Price Rd. and then follows the Tempe Canal, which is the boundary between Tempe and Mesa, north.
