Political experience: Working in Washington, D.C. for Congressman John Myers (R-IN); worked on the Health Care Freedom Act which failed in 2008 but is on the 2010 ballot as Prop 106; executive director, Prop. 207 (protecting private property rights), which passed in 2006; director, Development for Americans for Fair Taxation, 2000-06; executive director, AZ School Choice Trust, 1999-00; worked on Ronald Reagan’s Presidential Campaign in Idaho, 1980; worked for the RNC, 1978-79.

Memberships have included: Board member, Orange Coalition; Arizonans in Action; Gotham Legal Foundation; NRA.

Interests: Economic issues, how to revitalize business, tax issues.

Issues:

Political influence: Tracy Thomas, original Phoenix 40 member, and his brother Terry Thomas; John Norton, Phoenix 40; President Ronald Reagan, whom I’ve worked for and met; Tom Franks, my lobbyist mentor at ARDA; and, Congressman Larry McDonald (deceased), who educated me on many fundamental ideas of the proper role of government.

Budget recommendations: Cutting income taxes for both personal and corporations will increase revenues and incentives to grow business. Cutting and reformulating the property tax to lower the business burden for equipment and property taxation as we are the 4th highest in the nation and this discourages business to locate here and is punitive for those already in business in Arizona. Inventory of state agencies and look at minimizing redundancy as well as privatizing as much as possible, which will increase revenue.

Other concerns: Taxation and securing our borders.

Fiscal philosophy: I am conservative and believe that we need transparency and accountability in government. I would like to see spending limits conform to population, growth and inflation.

Background & experience: I’ve worked in and around government and with policy issues my whole career and this would be a natural set for me to take on the role of a legislator.

Prop 100 sales tax: I opposed as it does nothing to fix our structural deficit and is a Band-Aid approach in my estimation.

Pro-life / pro-choice: I am pro-life.

One last thing: I am not afraid to disagree with my own party if they are violating the Constitution or abridging freedom for the individual and their rights.

Campaign Finance: private.
