Former House Majority Leader Eddie Farnsworth has jumped into a big lead in the GOP’s House Legislative District 22 primary election, and incumbent Laurin Hendrix is in danger of losing his seat.
Hendrix has fallen behind former Gilbert Town Councilman Steve Urie by 572 votes with 32 of 62 precincts reporting and early ballots counted.
GOP voters are effectively choosing the representatives for the House since no Democrats are running in the Republican dominant district, which encompasses Gilbert and parts of Mesa and Pinal County, Apache Junction and Gold Canyon.
The rest of the crowded field is nowhere in contention. Kelly Townsend has 2,403, Higley Unified School District governing board President Paul Howell has 1,797 and Brett Petillo is last with 1,693.
