The candidates vying to replace retiring Arizona Congressman John Shadegg are set to face off for their first formal debate on Wednesday.
Republican Ben Quayle, Democrat Jon Hulburd and Libertarian Michael Shoen are set to debate on KAET-TV’s Horizon show at 7 p.m.
Quayle and Hulburd have been locked in a contentious advertising battle to try to win voters’ support in the 3rd District.
It covers parts of Phoenix, Paradise Valley, Cave Creek and Carefree and is normally strongly Republican. GOP-registered voters outnumber Democrats by about 50,000, and another 114,000 are registered independent.
