Republicans Proud, Williams lead in LD26 House race

A Republican spending spree to knock off Rep. Nancy Young Wright appears to be working.

Rep. Vic Williams, a Republican incumbent, was losing much of the night by a slim margin to Wright, a Democratic incumbent, but he clawed his way past her late and leads by nearly 900 votes with 89 of 90 precincts reporting.

Republican Terri Proud, a pro-gun, Reagan conservative, leads the three-way contest for two House seats.

The district has the distinction of sending some of the most conservative members and the most liberal members to the Legislature and Republicans want to make sure Wright, who first won election in 2008, doesn’t return.

Republicans spent $45,851 in October in independent expenditures to oppose her.
