General election results made official Monday set up the first recount of a statewide ballot proposition that officials can recall.

Gov. Jan Brewer dominated the governor’s race, winning a full term on the Ninth Floor with a 14-point win over Democratic Attorney General Terry Goddard.

Nationally, Democrats suffered disaster in the general election. In Arizona, it was even worse. For the first time since 1994, Republicans swept Arizona’s statewide offices. Even the Attorney General’s Office, which has been in Democratic hands for the past 12 years, couldn’t withstand the Republican tsunami.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Terry Goddard says Republican Gov. Jan Brewer is trying to grab headlines by traveling to San Francisco, where the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals is hearing arguments dealing with Arizona's tough new immigration law.

Republicans are targeting four Democratic-held seats in the 30-member Senate, a coup that would give them supermajority control for the first time in Arizona’s history.

Polling on Arizona’s statewide races has consistently shown GOP candidates on top, and Republicans are optimistic that the anti-Democratic mood sweeping the state and the country will give them total control of state government.

Only a couple of relatively competitive races stand between Republicans and their first sweep of Arizona’s six statewide offices since 1994, not including the Corporation Commission.

Gov. Jan Brewer's doctor, Dr. Gordi Khera, says she's in excellent health. The statement comes in response to about two weeks of internet speculation that the 66-year-old Brewer is in poor health and might not be able to serve a four-year term if elected Nov. 2.
