Senate candidate Robert Thomas, a Phoenix Republican who is touting himself as a successful businessman, filed for personal bankruptcy in 1994 and he was a wanted man in Mississippi for four years after a judge found him in contempt of court for failing to pay his daughters’ medical bills.

The presumptive Democratic nominee for governor, Attorney General Terry Goddard, says the public is at risk in Arizona because of what he calls "a climate of permissiveness" toward private prisons.

State lawmakers from both parties are calling for hearings to look into the escape of three violent inmates from a private prison in northwestern Arizona.
