Thomas accused of retaliating against enemies

Lawyers pressing a discipline case against former Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas say officials who crossed Thomas and chief ally Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio in political disputes were often targeted for investigations and, in some cases, were criminally charged.

Allegations of political retribution were at the center of the opening day of the case against Thomas and two of his former deputies on allegations that they targeted officials based on their animosity toward them.

Thomas contends he was trying to root out corruption, while county officials say the investigations were an abuse of power.

If an ethics panel finds that Thomas violated the professional rules of conduct, he could face a wide range of punishments, including disbarment.

  1. I’ve been working toward this day for since 2005. Thomas has left hundreds of thousands of lives shattered according to his own words. His uncontrolled greed for political power brought him to manufacture the criminal statistics he needed as a means to create a political resume for himself. The evidence is clear, his policies used Mandatory Minimum Sentencing laws as a weapon of mass destruction against 200,000 residents of one county in Arizona. And, he was almost able to spread his malaise throughout the state when he ran for its Attorney General. A bid which I work tirelessly to prevent and one that he lost by less than 1,000 votes in the primary. If the state of Arizona has ever had a public enemy, it is this man. Hopefully, indictments will soon follow the conclusion of this proceeding.

  2. If, and I have to give Andy Thomas the presumption od innocence, Thomas and Lisa Aubuchon are found guilty, the sad part is the disbarment will last only 5 years. Thomas and company were only lap dogs doing the bidding of gangsters Joe Arpaio and Dave Hendershott. Arpaio has again walked away from any responsibility while all his stooges, in one way or another, will pay the price. And the blue hairs in Sun City will vote him as Sheriff again!
