Redistricting applicants raise questions of qualifications, independence (access required)

It's unclear what will happen with a batch of applicants who wanted to replace the ousted - then reinstated - chairwoman of Arizona’s Independent Redistricting Commission Colleen Mathis.

Few apply for IRC chair (access required)

It seems few people are interested in signing up for a full-time, unpaid job that will immediately make them one of the most controversial people in the state.

The Commission on Appellate Court Appointments, which is tasked with nominating candidates for the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission, has only received four applications for the vacant chairman’s post, and one is likely ineligible.

AZ Supreme Court won’t block Mathis’ removal (access required)

The Arizona Supreme Court has rejected Colleen Mathis’ request to block her removal as Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission chair while the appeal of her ouster works its way through the court system.

Mathis can continue to appeal her decision, but will do so as the former IRC chairwoman, the court ruled on Tuesday.
