Bad blood over bad check leads to indictment of boxing promoter (access required)

Boxing manager Joe Diaz hopes the indictment of a Phoenix fight promoter leads to bigger fish - namely, former boxing commissioner and Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox. Promoter Peter McKinn III was indicted Sept. 30 on five counts of forgery, theft, fraud and perjury stemming from a five-year-old dispute with Diaz. McKinn pleaded not guilty in an Oct. 8 arraignment.

Sotomayor a flashpoint for Hispanic vote (access required)

But as the first Hispanic and only the third woman appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court, she has become one of America's top role models. Arpaio investigating Maricopa County supervisor

A Maricopa County supervisor and frequent critic of Sheriff Joe Arpaio is under criminal investigation by the Sheriff's Office. The Arizona Republic reports the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office has filed a public-records request with Phoenix officials, looking for information on Mary Rose Wilcox and her husband, former state lawmaker Earl Wilcox.
