U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords is seeking more than $73 million in congressional earmarks for various projects in Congressional District 8.
The majority of the requests from the southern Arizona Democrat are in support of defense needs, with Fort Huachuca specifically targeted for three projects with a price tag of $8 million.
Additionally, Giffords’ list includes slightly more than $2 million for three projects to protect the San Pedro River.
Her communications director C.J. Karamargin said the congresswoman was selective in choosing projects for which she requested funding.
One out-of-district project Giffords requested financial support for is $3 million for replacement of an old corrugated metal barrier adjacent to the Nogales Port of Entry.
