Attorney Ben Quayle, who is seeking the Republican nomination in the 10-way contest in Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District, has raised a whopping $1.1 million for his campaign.
Of the amount, $566,000 came in the second quarter.
His campaign has about $684,000 cash-on-hand.
The impressive amount shows that Quayle’s message of cutting taxes and spending, and restoring the country’s fiscal health is catching on, said Damon Moley, his communications director.
“I think it places him very well going into the final stretch of the primary, not only to get his message out but (to) defend himself from the negative attacks that are out there and we expect to come,” Moley said.
Moley, however, emphasized that money alone won’t win the race for anybody.
“You have to have good ideas and you have to earn the trust of the voters,” he said.
Quayle, the son for former vice president Dan Quayle, can only be happy to get the kind of financial support.
Already, the younger Quayle has been the subject of strong criticisms, which are expected to intensify as the polls inch closer.
Other campaigns have questioned his credentials and tried to paint him as a person who’s simply benefitting from his family’s name and his father’s political network.
Candidate Quayle had shot back at his critics: “When you start attacking the other candidates, then you obviously don’t have something good to talk about your own candidate.”
