Issues:
Political influence: Ronald Reagan. He’s kind of my inspiration. He was a very affable, friendly and very knowledgeable man in the political arena, and he brought great ideas and conservative values.
Budget recommendations: We must cut the state budget appropriately in a good, honest, data-driven sense. We must critically examine how the money is spent. There are over 200 agencies in the state. Do we need all of them? We need to consolidate where we can. I’d love to see revenues being generated by new base industries and job creation. I think the jobs recovery package was a good beginning document to start promoting base industries and getting the tax reform we need.
Other concerns: Job creation, economic development and right-sizing state government. I’ll also be working with the special-needs community, children, working families, veterans.
Fiscal philosophy: I’m conservative. I believe budgets should be justified for their expenditures, and I believe in performance measures. Less regulation and a little less government.
Background & experience: I’ve worked for 33 years with the Mojave County Probation Department. I was an administrator so I dealt with all types of programs and budgets. I interacted with state agencies, state leaders and policy makers. I also served 18 years on the local school board.
Prop. 100 sales tax: Essentially, I opposed the sales tax. I believed it was a temporary fix. I think this just kicked the can down the road. Right now we are looking at a larger deficit. I believe it was a process for certain population groups, and it doesn’t stimulate the economy in a positive direction.
Pro-life/pro-choice: I am 100,000 percent pro-life. Abortion should only be considered for the safety of the mother.
One last thing: I kept my campaign promises. I will continue to work hard within the Legislature, and we will get our state back on the right track and get people back to work.
Campaign Finance: public.
