This district encompasses the northeast quadrant of the state, with a narrow band that extends west to a point within 15 miles of the state’s border with Nevada. The western spur generally follows the boundary of Grand Canyon National Park. Another spur extends along I-40 from the southwest corner of the Navajo Reservation to include Flagstaff. (Most of the area around Flagstaff is in Legislative District 1.) After Flagstaff (2006 population: 58,213), the largest concentration of people is in the unincorporated community of Tuba City with close to 8,500 residents. Although the district lies mostly in three counties (Apache, Coconino and Navajo), there is one precinct in Mohave County. Officially, there is also a small slice of Yavapai County included in the district, although no registered voters reside there.
