Children: 2; 2 grandchildren.

Religious preference: Lutheran.

Education: Attended San Jose City College, Pima College; GED, 1975.

Political experience: Precinct committeeman; state delegate for Republican Party; secretary, District 27 Republicans.

Memberships have included: Mount Zion church councilman and secretary; Toastmasters, secretary.

Interests: Fix things around the house, playing guitar, singing in the church choir, riding motorcycles.

Issues:

Political influence: Ronald Reagan, because he came from humble beginnings.

Budget recommendations: Cut expenses. I am basically an economical person. In my private life I cut what I don’t need. There’s so much waste in government in general.

Other concerns: Encourage businesses to come to Arizona and generate jobs. Immigration – I’m for securing the border first and dealing with the rest of it after.

Fiscal philosophy: Spend what you have. You come up with a budget and stick with it. It’s hard to forecast – that’s the biggest problem everybody has had. There are so many mandates.

Background & experience: I’ve been working since I was young. I came from a fairly poor family, and I’ve had to mow lawns and take paper routes. I’ve had to be very self-motivated. I’m strong in my faith, and I try to live in a moral, conservative way. I just figure its life lessons and experiences that have gotten me to this point. I believe the [founding] fathers intended it to be this way – you work, you get into business and then you get into politics. And that’s what I’m trying to do.

Proposition 100 sales tax: I’m against it. Yes, we do need money. But I think the teachers are being used as pawns by the unions. There’s a lot of money being wasted. There was nothing in it showing how they intended to change their spending habits.

Pro-life/pro-choice: I’m basically pro-life. The only time I would allow it is in cases of rape or incest or to save the mother’s life.

One last thing: Basically, I’m just a working person who has a conscience. I speak from my heart, and I believe there’s always something more to learn. If you think you know God’s plan, then you’re in trouble. I figure if Ron Gould can do it, I can do it too – air conditioning guys like us are really popular in the summer. I have an open mind, which I think is what American voters want in a politician. We might disagree on things, but we are Americans, and I feel like we’re coming apart.

Campaign Finance: public.
