ISSUES:
Political influence: Barry Goldwater caught my attention when I was 14. I have been a Republican and a Goldwater Conservative since.
Budget recommendations: Increase revenues by decreasing government regulations and reducing taxes on business. Reduce state spending especially in areas of redundancy. Arizona’s business climate has lagged California’s by about 7 years and, until our business climate begins to resemble that of Texas, we’ll continue to struggle.
Other concerns: Education. I believe its not the amount of funding for education in Arizona, but how that funding is allocated and the many hands along the way from the state’s treasury to the teachers in the classrooms. Our delivery system for educational funding is in need of an overhaul.
Fiscal philosophy: Government shouldn’t spend what its revenues don’t cover. Debt should be severely curtailed. Unfunded federal mandates should be refused until adequate funding is received.
Background & experience: Municipal accounting and purchasing coupled with real estate has given me a good background for understanding the issues of Arizona’s budget. Additionally my over 20 years of earning a paycheck has given me a grounding and understanding for what so many of the people of my district face on a day to day basis.
Proposition 100 sales tax: I do not believe that increasing taxes has ever grown an economy out of a recession. I am highly concerned about what the state faces in three years when the temporary sales tax increase sunsets.
Pro-life/pro-choice: Life begins at conception. I am endorsed by the Arizona Right to Life PAC
One last thing: Natural resources. Arizona needs to change the ratio of public (federal) to private lands in order to take advantage of the wealth our natural resources can provide to our economy and the jobs that our natural resources can generate. Natural resources are renewable and, with careful stewardship they can enhance the Arizona economy and the economy of my district.
